My Favorite Camera Accessories | Tina Case Photography

March 17, 2014  •  Leave a Comment

There are a number of camera accessories that I realize I cannot live without.  To do my job without them would make my job more difficult and time consuming.  It would be like being a chef and not having a good set of knives or the proper pan to Sauté onions.  So what are those accessories?

My first CAN'T LIVE WITHOUT accessory is my Joby UltraFit Sling Strap (they come in choices for men or women).  Once I tossed those uncomfortable, in-the-box, and behind-the-neck straps and screwed these straps to each of my cameras it made such a difference.

Typically I carry two cameras on me during a shoot, my Canon 5D Mark IIIs with a 24-70mm f2.8L and the other with a 70-200mm 2.8L lens.  These are fairly hefty lenses but with the Joby UltraFit Sling Strap I never have any discomfort whatsoever.  Really.  It's to the point where I don't even think about it anymore and just realize that without these straps I don't know how I could carry and maneuver my camera gear so easily and fast.  I swap between my two cameras easily depending on the photo I want to capture.

Next I carry all of my photo gear for a typical shoot in my ThinkTankPhoto Airport Navigator Bag.  This includes my two Canon 5D Mark iii bodies with 24-70mm and 70-200mm lenses attached, one 600 Speedlite EX-RT, a Gary Fong light sphere collapsible speedlite mount, and batteries, 50mm lens and lens wipes.  All of this takes up so little room and the bag rolls so smoothly on inline skate wheels.  What I love about this bag is it keeps my gear protected, I do not have to swap lenses since they fit inside the bag attached to the camera bodies.  I can even stuff both an iPad and Laptop in the front compartment.  And I always bring this aboard when I travel by plane. It fits easily in the overhead luggage compartment or in the seat in front on most airplanes.  There are also two external pockets for things like a water bottle, cables, tissues or sunglasses.  It really keeps my gear organized and I always put things away in the same position so I never wonder, "Now where did I put that lens?"  It's always where I expect it.

My last "MUST HAVE" accessory is my new Manfrotto 190 which has a vertical column position allowing me to shoot directly overhead which is key for product photos.  I tether my camera to my laptop, click the trigger and shoot.  This can be an entirely different blog post but I found that shooting products overhead is simpler than upright.  So far so good.  I recently shot an entire catalog of products this way and they came out great and are easier to style in many ways.   So this is my list of 3 "Must Have" camera accessories that simply make my life easier.  What are your favorite, can't-live-without camera accessories?
