From Baker Beach (San Francisco) to Vasona Park (Los Gatos), there are SO many wonderful places to take your portraits with amazing California locations in the background. From landmarks like the Golden Gate Bridge or the Palace of Fine Arts or even a decorated shed in your own backyard (you'll see that in the Back Yard storyboard)! I love to find new location for my photo sessions. If you have a location in mind let me know! I'm always up for finding the next backdrop for your portraits! In alphabetic order: Alum Rock Park, San Jose (I just learned that dogs are no longer allowed)
Your own BACKYARD! These bridal shower photos were taken in the backyard of the Bride-to-Be! (Wedding Shower) BAKER BEACH, San Francisco (Family Session) - Best time is the Golden Hour!
Crissy Fields (the 'other' side of Baker Beach with views of the Golden Gate Bridge. Cupertino Library (Fall is a great time if the leaves have changed color) (Family Session) Gamble Gardens, Palo Alto (Family Session) - Be sure to check ahead to ensure no other events or Stanford games are occurring!
House Family Vineyard, Saratoga (Family Session) - Need to plan in advance.
Kevin Moran Park, Saratoga (Family Session) - Golden hour is ideal, be sure no soccer events are happening.
Linda Vista Park, Cupertino. Plenty of parking and it is a nice, quiet park with light foot traffic.
Lovers' Lane, Presidio - San Francisco (Parking can be tricky, but this is a lovely, rustic area!)
Maryknoll, Los Altos Hills (you do need special permission to take photos here) (Family Session)
Montalvo Art Center (also known as Villa Montalvo) - photo permit is required. (Senior Portraits)
Mountain View Firehouse and Cuesta Park (Family Session). I have to mention that the Mountain View Firehouse was SO wonderful to work with. We spontaneously asked if we could take photos there because the little boy LOVES the whole fireman experience. They weren't open when we got there (doing a drill) but on our walk back they were and readily helped us get some great photos! It was a day to remember for this little guy!
Natural Bridges, Sea Cliff, Santa Cruz (Senior Portraits) - Golden Hour is the ideal time to go.
Nick's Next Door (Baby Shower), Los Gatos
Palace of Fine Arts, San Francisco (Family Session)
Pichetti Winery, Cupertino (May need to call in advance to be sure there are no other events)
Rinconada Pool, Palo Alto (Birthday Party)
San Jose Downtown (Urban-Look) (Family Session)
Shoup Park & Redwood Groves, Los Altos
Stanford University (Palo Alto) - you are required to have a permit, being a Stanford alum is Plus.
Sutro Baths, San Francisco - be sure to check the weather ahead of time, can be quite foggy! (Family Session)
Vasona Park, Los Gatos - this location can be tricky as it gets very crowded on weekends. Try a weekday session for best results.
Warner Hutton House, Saratoga (Family Milestone Event)
Wildwood Park, Saratoga (Senior Prom Portraits) - usually fine to go, but check ahead to ensure no other events are happening.

This is so helpful. Thank you so much for the information. I am planning a trip out to San Francisco to visit a friend and she wants to hire me to take family portraits while I'm there. I'm having trouble finding a beautiful, non-beach, location that doesn't require an expensive permit. Do you have any suggestions? We want to stay on the San Francisco peninsula.
