Now the Guggenheim's have been entrusted to take the Tony nominated musical "The People in the Picture" and produce it for the first time since the Broadway run. "The People in the Picture is a musical about a grandmother recalling her life in the Yiddish theater and the Holocaust. It's a poignant story that's full of wit, emotion and grace. With this beautiful material and this talented team it’s a sure to be a winner.
Above, the Guggenheim's, in the back row (Steve, Scott and Shannon) and friend Tom; front row Artie Butler, Iris Dart and Mike Stoller. Who are they you might ask? Well let me tell you who these legends ARE:
Artie has worked with such notables including Louis Armstrong (Artie recommended Louis sing "It's a Wonderful World"), Neil Diamond, The Rolling Stones, Herbie Hancock and Joe Cocker. OH MY GOSH, RIGHT? Next is Iris Dart, this amazing playwright and lyricist is most well known for her novel "Beaches" which was made into a movie starring Bette Midler, and for her work on the Sonny and Cher show. It was from that show that her character for Cee Cee Bloom was born inspired by Cher. Mike Stoller was the long time musical parter with Lyricist Jerome "Jerry" Leiber. Together they wrote such classics as "Hound Dog" (performed by none other than the King, Elvis), "Love Me", and "Jailhouse Rock." According to Wikipedia, Leiber and Stoller wrote or co-wrote over 70 chart hits. They were inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame in 1985 and the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1987. I was in AWE! How amazing to photograph these American Icons!
