Favorite San Francisco Photo Venues: Bay Area Photographer Tina Case
As an on-location photographer I love to check out new venues to take family portraits. I don't have an actual brick and mortar studio - the great outdoors is my studio. And fortunately living in the San Francisco Bay area presents itself to some wonderful locations for amazing backdrops.
One of my all-time favorite venues is Baker Beach. Not only does it have the Golden Gate Bridge as an architectural detail, but the beach and extraordinary lighting with the sun setting across from the bridge and some iconic California Characters as well.
Consider this: On a recent family photo shoot there I was surprised to see "The Naked Man." Apparently he is a well known fixture at the beach, often found frolicking in the waves with his dog. No matter the weather, he's out there. The good news: his presence leaves a nice wide open space for which to take photos. In other words everyone else clears out when he's around and for me that's good.
On the other side of the Bridge is Crissy Fields. This is another great venue with a different perspective and angle to the bridge. This location also provides different lighting since it is on the north-east side of the Presidio versus the north-west side where Baker Beach is.
Of course the challenge is always to find the right time of day. You can't predict the weather ahead of time so you may get an overcast day (my favorite) or a bright sunny day. So far each time I've gone there it's been bright and sunny with just a few clouds in the sky. So while I plop my stuff on a blanket my husband usually accompanies me with his guitar and keeps an eye on our belongings while I go out and take photos with my clients. We end up making a nice day of being up in the city and enjoying the weather, the vista and the charm of the city.
Here are a few of my shots from the sessions I've done there. Every time I have the chance I like to suggest this venue as an option.
Here are a number of other great venues for photo sessions in San Francisco.
