@SVLOCALMARKET and @DISHCRAWL - Food Photography

IMG_2827 It's wonderful when one contact leads to another.  And when both of them happen to be in the FOOD industry - it opens up a wonderful world of tastes, flavors, textures and amazing people.

This summer I began working with Paige, owner of SV LOCAL MARKET to take photos of the incredible fresh produce she collects from local farmers all around the Silicon Valley area (thus the SV in the name).  Earlier this year I started doing a lot of product photography and discovered that whether I'm taking photos of people, places or things, I love it all.   I learn from each experience about lighting, composition and especially textures.  I'll write about @Dishcrawl next week, that's my next tasty photography experience.

What's so great about working with Paige in particular is I also get to see someone who is making a small business flourish.  She's just incredible.  She's an amazing chef, web designer and entrepreneur.  She's teaching me about the lovely fresh produce that is so abundant in our region.  Like these Candy Cane Beets - this was the first time I ever saw them.  I used to hate beets as a kid but now I absolutely love them.  They are so good for you too.

Then there are these fingerling radishes and plump ripe tomatoes that create amazing salads.  IMG_2862

My appreciation of fresh produce and the abundant varieties has soared.  I love the colors and shapes, just amazing.

If you're new to the world of farm fresh produce or don't have time to shop at your weekly farmers market, you have to check out SV Local Market.  They bring the farm fresh produce to you.  Or at least to a drop off point convenient to you.  You can read all about how it works here.

Paige recently created a sweet strawberry shortcake infused with lavendar sugar at @Dishcrawl's "Unexpected" event.  I had the pleasure of attending and participating in that fun event where we experienced 8 different restaurants and in particular saw a room packed with people ready to devour this strawberry sensation.

If you're local to the Silicon Valley area, check them out.  The health benefits of eating fresh produce are numerous and buying local helps support our local farmers.  It's a win-win.  A very tasty win-win.

Next up, I'll be writing about Dishcrawl, more food photography!
